The Story Behind Big Timer™

This is a Big Timer™ was invented by Nic Sim, co-founder of Redbox Studio, to make business strategy more tangible, engaging and memorable.

Drawing on almost three decades of working with entrepreneurs, Nic created the game to help people understand strategy by transforming business concepts into a playful yet powerful learning experience. Making business decisions rather than simply learning from slides and theory help participants discover actionable insights for themselves.

Since it was invented about 10 years ago, hundreds of entrepreneurs, students and professionals have played Big Timer™ in workshops across Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Singapore and Hanoi, discovering how customers, products, resources, risk and leverage come together to shape the success of a business..

Why Train Big Timer™?

Great learning doesn’t just happen when people listen. It happens when they experience, decide, experiment — and see the consequences of their choices.

Big Timer™ gives you a ready-to-use experiential learning tool that you can integrate into your existing training programmes, workshops and facilitation practice.

The game is quick to learn and fast to play and most game rounds take about 30 minutes. A typical half-day workshop is 3-4 hours and you can train a room of 30 participants easily. Big Timer™ game is made as a convenient pack of cards so it’s light and easy to carry around. The game is the opener to discussions about business and strategy.
