Last week, Nic joined gaming enthusiasts and industry professionals in Petaling Jaya for an exciting game conference, where the worlds of gaming, technology, and creativity converged.
The Malaysian Simulation and Gaming Conference (MASAGA) highlighted the growing interest and influence in games as transformation tools, particularly for trainers, coaches and facilitators involved in providing training and workshops.
Among the many speakers in attendance, Nic had the privilege of meeting Dr. Marcin Wardaszko from Kozminski University, Poland. Dr Wardaszko, an expert in the art and science of crafting immersive experiences through games and simulations, shared his invaluable insights on game development and the 5C model.

A Glimpse into Immersive Gaming
Dr. Wardaszko delved into the intricacies of creating immersive gaming experiences. He introduced Nic and the conference attendees to the 5C model of game development, a framework that has proven to be instrumental in designing captivating and memorable games.
The 5C Model of Game Development
Dr. Marcin Wardaszko’s 5C model of game development encapsulates five essential elements that are crucial for crafting immersive experiences:
- Complexity: Games thrive on challenge. The right balance of complexity keeps players engaged and motivated. Dr. Wardaszko emphasized the importance of carefully designing game mechanics, puzzles, and obstacles to ensure that they are challenging yet enjoyable.
- Communication: Effective communication is key to immersing players in the game world. This encompasses not only the narrative and storytelling but also the user interface and feedback mechanisms. Dr. Wardaszko stressed the significance of clear and intuitive communication within games.
- Creativity: Innovation is the lifeblood of the gaming industry. Creativity fuels the development of unique and engaging game concepts. Dr. Wardaszko encouraged attendees to push the boundaries of their imagination when creating new game experiences.
- Consensus: Collaboration is integral to successful game development. Dr. Wardaszko highlighted the importance of consensus among the development team. Ensuring that everyone shares a common vision and understanding of the game’s objectives is essential for a cohesive final product.
- Commitment to Action: Building immersive experiences takes dedication and perseverance. Dr. Wardaszko reminded everyone that turning a game concept into reality requires unwavering commitment and a willingness to iterate and improve.

Diverse Game Designers, Game Developers and Game Play
Aside from Dr. Wardaszko’s presentation, the conference featured a diverse lineup of speakers who comprised game designers and game developers, each showcasing their own unique games through various breakout sessions. This gathering of minds allowed for the exchange of ideas and experiences, fostering a rich and dynamic atmosphere that is essential for the growth of the games in the training and workshop industry.
Nic took the opportunity to share his own creation, the “Big Timer” game, with fellow attendees who were excited at the possibilities of using our game in their own training and workshops.
The 3-day game conference was a meeting of Malaysian minds and an interesting showcase of board games, card games and simulation games.
Dr. Marcin Wardasko’s 5C model helped attendees understand what it takes to create a memorable and captivating game, not just for gaming’s sake, but to educate, inspire and transform people about concepts in the real world.

Besides Dr Marcin’s masterclass, the conference presented Malaysian presenters such as Jason Fung, Nurul Fathiyah Abdul Muen, Effendy Norazman, Syariffanor binti Hisham, Isaac Selvaraj Peter, Malar Villi Supramaniam, Srinidhi Santosh, Sufiz Mohd Suffian and Capt Arivananthan.
