We just completed our FB Live session today with Vincent Teh, the managing director of Gordian IP who gave us important information about intellectual property (IP), why it matters to your business and more importantly, how to protect this intangible asset.

Did you know that companies with IP tend to make more money than companies without IP? Bet you didn’t know this!

Watch the video below for:

  • the 4 types of intellectual property that you may already have in your business
  • why having IPs make startups more investor-friendly
  • ways to monetise one’s IP
  • what Creative Commons is
  • 3 questions you must ask yourself if you’re intending to register your IP
  • the actual cost of registering one’s IP (to be honest, Vincent reveals the figure openly in this video and it really isn’t much at all – less than the cost of one month of your insurance premium!)
  • 2 Malaysians who became world-famous for their inventions (and one of their products is found mostly in our kitchens and coffee shops!)
  • 2 books that we introduced (one by Vincent and one by me) that are useful for startups

Vincent is a trademark and design agent as well as an intellectual property consultant where he works to help clients with their trademarks, designs and copyright concerns.

He helps startups and businesses commercialise and monetise intellectual property assets as well.

Other services include prosecution of trademarks, designs and copyright, as well as enforcement matters relating to passing off, anti-counterfeiting and opposition.

Outside of work, Vincent can usually be found speaking at IP seminars or contributing articles to various journals, newspapers and magazines.

Below are Vincent’s slides that he has kindly shared with us.

Before founding Gordian, Vincent had worked as a manager and an executive at two intellectual property firms and this past experience has given him immense experience in handling hearings, oppositions, negotiations and conflict resolutions.
