It means you accept the buyer’s payment first before your product is ready to be shipped. You can accept a deposit or you can take full payment.
This helps you ensure ordered products don’t sit around in your warehouse and you have buyers when your products are ready.
This is one of the many strategies for e-commerce when you embark on selling online.
Other strategies include:
- Knowing how to use your social media (yes, things like FB and Instagram) to drive people back to your e-commerce website and not the other way around! Lots of people don’t know the difference between a social media platform and their website. You could be wasting a lot of energy and money by getting people off your website!
- Offering free shipping as this one strategy can influence customers to buy not just one item but a few items once they reach the threshold price you’ve set.
- Having a clear shipping policy in the form of a policy page or FAQ helps too. First-time buyers need the reassurance that you will be an honest and ethical seller.
- When selling to millennials, appeal to their sense of purpose. Tell them why you’re selling what you’re selling. They’ll be more interested if you have a story that goes with your products. You’re not selling products online, you’re selling aspiration and hope.
