If you plan to get your website redesigned for your business, you need to ask yourself these important questions.
Since 1998, we have been using these questions with our clients as they undergo the process of redesigning their websites. (Our work is an all-in-one complete solution where we help consultants, doctors, business owners and retailers to redesign, develop, write and manage their websites).
These few questions have been useful for us to guide our clients through the process of setting up their websites and we believe it would be useful for your website planning too.
Taking some time to answer these questions with yourself or with your team can save you from fire-fighting and pointing fingers later when things go awry.
What’s Your Website’s Real Purpose?
You can use your website for lead generation (and this is highly recommended) unless you are running an ecommerce website. If you fail to understand the purpose of the website, it will not help your business at all. If you are using your website for lead generation, what will you offer to your website visitors? What is on your landing page?
Who Is Your Target Audience?
Knowing whom you are creating the website for will go a long way in helping you market your website later. Think about the age group, geographic location, income level and interests of your audience.
Put yourself in their shoes and imagine you are a visitor to the website.
What would interest you?
What would turn you off?
If you cannot imagine your target audience, how about thinking about people who are currently buying your products or services?
What are they like?
What age groups do they belong to?
What is their geographic location?
More importantly, what do they want?
What do they need?
What Are You Offering That’s Unique?
These days, it’s not just enough to offer information. You need to offer high quality information either in the form of articles, videos or even podcasts!
Good quality content is important if you want to attract prospects to pay attention to you because that is the only way to be distinctive. Teach prospects something they didn’t know about. Offer them incomparable value. Curate interesting industry information that appeals to them.
In the process, they educate themselves and find themselves trusting you and what you market. Besides, providing interesting and useful content is a great way to position yourself as a trustworthy expert and raise your credibility!
Will You Use Quality Graphics And Images?
Good graphics and images are key to making a website look professional and polished. These include product photos, company logo etc.
What product images do you have? If you do not have good images, consider getting professional shots done. Or you can also consider buying stock photographs.
How about logos? Do you have one or do you need to create one? What other images do you need for your website?
Have You Considered Website Updates & Website Management?
A website that works as your best lead generation platform or even selling platform needs to be constantly updated and managed well.
This means removing old information, removing old products that are no longer in stock and adding new updates and products. It also means updating on recent events and promotions that you have had or intend to have.
If you don’t factor this in, you will not get the best out of your website. It’s that simple.
if you are in business, you need to factor in website management costs as a marketing investment, not a marketing cost. A marketing investment means you invest money now so that you can reap the benefits later in the form of leads or prospects.
The best thing about having a website is that you can make immediate changes to your website and you see the information in real time, updated and relevant unlike printed materials.
Updating and maintaining your website also encourages search engines to index your website, thus enabling your website to be ranked in the search engines when your prospects are searching for you online. If you plan to have a website to help you with your business, website management and updates is a definite must!
