Will You Support This Good Cause?

Finally my WomenBizSENSE event is over and I can come back to a regular routine.

While it was tremendous fun on Saturday, the planning and organizing took a lot of work.

As part of the organizing committee, I had to put my marketing skills to work – getting sponsors and contributors for our lucky draw and goodie bags. We got Nestle, NuSkin and a good number of Penang businesses to support our event so much so that we had so many lucky draw prizes to give away!

It was a success beyond our dream because we brought together 70 over women of all nationalities and backgrounds to meet, network and have fun at Berjaya Georgetown Hotel.

Read all about this and take a look at the photos in our WomenBizSENSE website.

While we supported last Saturday’s event with a lucky draw prize of our own (won by a lucky woman called Pauline Cheah), we’ve also been busy supporting other charity efforts in Penang.

One of them is the Penang Christian Centre which is organising a charity carnival this coming Saturday (14 July) to gather funds for 8 community organisations in Penang.

They are:

1. Youth with a Mission Malaysia which runs a centre in Georgetown to provide food for street people and shelter during the day
2. Charis Hospice which provides care for cancer patients
3. Crystal Family Home Bhd which is an orphanage based in Farlim
4. Persatuan Penyayang Wargatua Pulau Pinang which is an old folks home providing free service to the needy
5. Women’s Centre for Change which offers refuge to survivors of domestic violence as well as championing the rights of women and children and educating the public on gender violence
6. Agape Counselling Centre Malaysia, Penang Branch which provides free counseling service
7. The Hiding Place which is a drug rehabilitation centre in Gelugor and
8. House of Hope which is a drop-in centre in Rifle Range, Air Itam providing daily necessities and help to the poor.

Mei Leng who is helping out with this charity carnival had asked if Redbox Studio would be able to help.

We had both volunteered on the Give Build Change fundraising website (under the Women’s Centre for Change) last November and I knew her well.

After discussing with Nic, we decided to contribute a product of ours, the Redbox Easyweb worth RM799, for their silent auction.

A silent auction works differently because bids will be submitted on paper instead (rather than through an auctioneer). It sounds interesting, right?

So if you have a business and want to help a group of organisations in Penang so that they can sustain their excellent community work, do contribute your products for this silent auction.

You don’t have to a Christian to do so either (Nic and I are Buddhists but we believe all good work, regardless of religion, should be heartily supported if we have the means to do so).

If you’re keen to support this charity carnival or keen to attend, please get in touch with Mei Leng (sportingspirit {at} yahoo.com) as soon as you can.
