How to Manually Submit Your Website To Search Engines

Over the years many people have said that you don’t need to submit your website to search engines – they’d come and index your website.

It’s true when your website is built on solid architecture which is search-engine friendly.

Our premium websites do really well on Google within 3 to 6 months, with many of them getting really good search rankings without much fuss. When your website is build right with both design and content playing major roles, you really never need to worry about search engine rankings or SEO too much.

Submitting your website manually to Google, Bing and a host of other search engines can be tedious work but someone has to do it. If your webmaster does not help you with it, he should be fired. Submitting sites to search engines should be one of the basic tasks which come with your website design package.

Submitting your website to search engines is only relevant IF you have quality content for the search engines bots to index. Otherwise, forget it.

What makes quality content?

Quality content is content that’s informative, up to date and answers the problems that your website visitors have. It should be free from spelling and grammatical errors. Visitors should know what you offer when they get to your website. They should be able to trust you based on your website content. Here’s an example of quality content from one of our premium websites: http://penangsurgeon.com

But what if you cannot write your own content? You can hire a copywriter.

Let’s say you have rock solid content but your webmaster never bothered to submit your website to major search engines. You can roll up your sleeves and do it yourself. It’s not some hush-hush secret.

Just the popular ones

Start with the big three first. Don’t know which big three I am talking about? Yes, Google, Yahoo and MSN (now Bing).

Once you get the hang of it, you can find the ‘smaller’ guns and submit to them later. I’m more concerned about the big boys. Once the big boys find you, it’s much easier for the smaller ones to do it too.

Update (2015): The Yahoo submit link is no longer on Yahoo.com. So you can’t manually submit your website to Yahoo.

You just need to key in your URL when prompted. Include everything. For instance, mine would be https://www.redboxstudio.com

The search engines need you to verify that you are a human and not some robot doing automatic submission (that’s frowned upon in world wide web land). Just key in what you see (usually numbers and letters) and then you get to submit your URL.

How soon will your website be ranked?

How soon can you see your website indexed? It depends.

It could be sooner than you think if you constantly update your website with fresh content.

You can always check by typing “site:www.yoursite.com” in the search box (minus the quote marks of course) of any search engine to find out if you’re indexed or not.
