Visiting Marina Bay Sands…

We were in Singapore last week and attended the Franchising and Licensing Asia exhibition at Marina Bay Sands (MBS). It was a two-in-one visit as we could attend the exhibition and also sneak a peek at the gorgeous Marina Bay Sands complex which comprises the hotel, mall and convention halls.

Travelling in Singapore is a breeze because everything is well-planned. Being Malaysian, I thought we had a long way to walk in order to find the exhibition hall. What a pleasant surprise to find that the exhibition hall was just a few steps away after we got off the bus! And the bus comes on time too!

(What a contrast to what we’ve experienced before. When we attended the Robert Kiyosaki seminar last year in The Mines Seri Kembangan, it was a long walk from the hotel plus we had to go in search of the venue a day before so that we could find it on the day of the seminar!)

The haze was back in Singapore so we skipped going up to the SkyPark to view the island republic. If you are not a hotel guest, expect to pay $20 per person to go up to the SkyPark (that elongated structure across the three buildings).

Walking inside MBS Hotel was quite an experience. It was a totally no-expense spared hotel. Everything practically gleamed. Actually walking inside the MBS Mall was exciting too. The kinds of brands we can only dream of!

We spent a few hours at the exhibition hall just looking at the kinds of businesses which were popular in Singapore as franchises. We noticed two things – food franchises and education franchises are big in Singapore. (Food is a big thing in Singapore. Period. If you go to any mall, the places packed to their gills are the cafes, restaurants and bars. All-you-can-eat buffets are very much in vogue in Singaporean cafes and restaurants but at $25 per person, I must say the deals are value-for-money.)

Fresh food was also being prepared for sampling during the exhibition. It’s no wonder that this burger franchisor from Korea called Kraze Burger had lines of people! The burgers were prepared on the spot – freshly grilled minced beef patties, with melting cheese slices, pickle and mayonnaise in warm buttered buns. They tasted really good!
